This illustration for Stanford magazine accompanied a story on innovation. This is the kind of idea you come up with when you find out the same issue already has an illustration with a light bulb in it. Now that I look at these faceless guys, they scare me. Hand-drawn/painted watercolor

This illustration went on a poster for a pancake breakfast hosted by the City of Sunnyvale, CA, public safety department. No, there's no cute firehouse like this in Sunnyvale. This is actually based on a real firehouse in Washington, D.C. Again, creative license. I like the doggie. Adobe Illustrator.

This was originally an entry for KFOG's Live at the Archives design-a-CD-cover contest. I didn't win. But I liked the drawing so much I retooled with a new title and pretended there's a band out there named Fog Along the Coast. Spot illustration for Stanford magazine's Cardinal Numbers. Done while I worked there as Assoc. Art Director. (Directing your own illustration is way cool. I only fired me once.) Note how the cloud moves on the film strip. That makes me happy.

This illustration for Stanford magazine accompanied an article about humor on the U.S. Supreme Court. Yes, you read that right. Some guy actually counted how many laughs each justice got. Look, they're rated on a scale from smelly fish to barrel of monkeys. You'd think a fake nose would be funnier than an arrow-through-the-head, but at the time apparently I thought it the other way around. Either way, those Supreme Court dudes are a laugh riot.
